The Allusionist reads A Christmas Carol. Stave 1: Marley's Ghost

Join the Allusionist over on YouTube.com/allusionistshow for the first of four livestreams of the "redistribute the wealth! You can't take it with you!" fable for our times: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

Helen Zaltzman reads (aloud - you won't just have to watch her quietly turning pages) with music and visuals by Martin Austwick.

If you want to read along with your own book, do! This first stream will be Stave 1 of the book, wherein Scrooge is going about his daytime business of work, more work, and making other people's lives worse, then that night he is visited by the ghost of his late business partner Jacob Marley.

This and all the other livestreams in the Christmas Carollusionist series will be available afterwards for not-live viewing at youtube.com/allusionistshow.

There's also a great Allusionist episode, How The Dickens Stole Christmas, about why Christmas is so Dickens-y, hear/read it at theallusionist.org/dickens-christmas.

For more of Martin Austwick's music and other work, check out palebirdmusic.com and martinaustwick.com.

These Christmas Carol livestreams are free, but if you want to chip in a little money, take yourself to theallusionist.org/donate.

Join the Allusionist over on YouTube.com/allusionistshow for the second of four livestreams of the "redistribute the wealth! You can't take it with you!" fable for our times: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

Helen Zaltzman reads the book (aloud - you won't just have to watch her quietly turning pages) with music and visuals by Martin Austwick.

If you want to read along with your own copy of the book, do! This second stream will be Stave 2 of the book, wherein Scrooge is visited by the ghost of Christmas Past and is taken on a whistlestop tour of festivities from his boyhood and earlier adulthood, so he gets to see himself becoming ever more of a prick.

Also: the poor lil mite Tiny Tim. He'll be ok, right? Right??

This and all the other livestreams in the Christmas Carollusionist series will be available afterwards for not-live viewing at youtube.com/allusionistshow.

Allusionist live tour of UK (and Ireland 🤞)

We’ve got a new live Allusionist show, Souvenirs, which is a real great time (and featuring some real big emotions about a font). We’ll be performing in a bunch of cities around the UK - and contact me if you have a venue in Ireland that you would like us to perform at, hopefully we can work it out.

An Allusionist live show isn’t just watching me make the normal podcast on stage, it’s a SHOW show. Previous examples that you can hear on your podfeed include No Title and WPM.

Yes! We get to do some live space-themed Allusionisting under a swirling dome of nebulae! I have hoped and dreamed of this for many years. AND your ticket includes a talk by astronomer Marley Leacock about space words like spaghettification.

There are two showings, so you can choose either to see Marley first or the Allusionist first, then swap around; and either side you can peruse the Space Centre’s exhibits and science demonstrations.

Tickets are on sale HERE. Early bird prices until 28 March.

Note: this event is over-19s only.

Accessibility information about the MacMillan Space Centre is here - flat entrance, elevator inside, wheelchair seating.

Masking is encouraged, because we all love not getting colds, covid and RSV.
