Jim Glaub and Dylan Parker didn’t think too much of it when, every year, a few letters were delivered to their New York apartment addressed to Santa.
But then one year, 400 letters arrived. And they decided they had to answer them.
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS:
Back in 2010, when the flurry of letters was arriving, Jim and Dylan’s friend Sarah made this documentary about them.
It was featured in the NYT and SO MANY OTHER PLACES!
The letters have evolved into a nonprofit, Miracle on 22nd Street, and Facebook group.
Gather round the fire and read ‘A Visit from St Nicholas’.
Check out previous years’ festive Allusionist episodes: Winterval (sing it with me: “Political correctness gone mad!”); Xmas Man, about Santa’s many different names and meaty Christmas cards; and How The Dickens Stole Christmas, fact-checking the Dickens-ness of the annual Dickens Fair in San Francisco (which I went to last week, at last!) and the Dickens-ness of Christmas altogether.
And also revisit last year’s pair of episodes about letter-writing, Open Me parts 1 and 2.
I put together a gift guide for word-fond people at theallusionist.org/allusionment/2018giftguide.
The transcript of this episode is at theallusionist.org/transcripts/dear-santa.
Seasonal Allusionist merch awaits at theallusionist.org/merch!
